There are many ways to transfer files from your Nikon digital to your computer. If you use RAW pictures, however, your Windows system won't 'see' them and they are left on the memory card.
Try using Nikon Transfer to fix that little problem. Log in Facebook Loading Google Loading Civic Loading No account yet?

Instead of preventing users from importing incompatible NEF files, Nikon Transfer will simply transfer and corrupt them, unbeknownst to you. Therefore, software on it can become outdated since Nikon software updates are generally tied to the availability of new cameras and rarely offer new functionality.
My workflow for years has included Nikon Transfer since it allowed me to rename, add metadata and transfer files from my memory cards to external hard drives simultaneously and seamlessly. I also used View NX2 because it allowed me to quickly review and rate photographs, which in turn helped me cull thousands of pictures down to the keepers. Everything seemed normal, that is until I arrived home.
When I uploaded my pictures to my local storage drives and began rating and culling, I noticed that all pictures taken with the D weren't previewing properly in View NX2.Pixhawk 2020
Instead of opening up a x pixel file, files measured a measly X pixel. Moreover, I was unable to select a camera preset e.
This happens presumably because Nikon Transfer does not recognize the camera.Sap mb52 export to excel
That being said, even though the information is all there in MBthere is no way to open the NEF files. During my online research, I found a small command line tool written by Phil Harvey that fixes the metadata. Fixing the issue is a manually intensive process since it has to be done one file at a time, but I'll take that over unusable and corrupted NEF files any day. The moral of the story is pretty obvious for software users: keep your software updated and test and retest your workflow whenever you get a new camera.
I had already tested my workflow with my D and my main computer and found no issues. If Nikon requires users to update their software in order for it to be compatible with new cameras, they should simply make the two incompatible.
Meaning, I would rather the software not recognize the D than recognize it and corrupt files. As a result of all this, I have decided to move on from Nikon software.

The preference set is that, by default, when I connect the cable from the D to the Macbook Pro, it opens automatically Nikon Transfer 2. Transfer 2 isn't officially compatible with High Sierra yet. That might be why it sometimes works and sometimes not. I don't have much experience with Transfer as I use PhotoMechanic to transfer, keyword and select files for editing, do my raw conversions and global editing in Capture NX-D and finish in Photoshop if I need to.
I said that to quickly. I managed to have Image capture to download files in my laptop. Is there any particular reason why you don't just stick your memory card in your Mac and copy the files over using Finder?
This is the workflow I use I don't know if your MacBook Pro has a memory card slot but I'm fairly sure that someone makes an adapter that would allow you to mount your memory card like an external drive.
The D ones aren't released yet. If you install Capture NX-D, you can view your raw files in that app. The same goes for current versions of LR and PS.
Is Nikon Transfer Not Recognizing Your Camera’s Files?
DxO and Capture One work too. Affinity and many others are still working on a solution. A card reader can be cheap and the cards have a more robust connector than the camera cable, so using a reader makes sense. I like Lexar's Professional workflow line of modular readers, even if they aren't the cheapest option.
Of course you are right and this is the first thing I wanted to do. However, in my region the XQD card readers are unavailable out of stock of back orders.
So I am trying to find a short term solution. I was surprised to hear that the readers were backordered. I checked several places that I've used and found the same thing. Looks like the reader makers didn't expect the XQD cards to be that popular. I know the cards are hard to find right now, but didn't realize the readers are as well When I got my first D4 they threw in a very basic Sony reader which is now my "travel reader".
